Paolo Pegoraro
Born in Bassano del Grappa in 1968, Pablo Pegoraro today is considered one of the leading Italian guitarists of his generation. The specialized press as well as recognized figures of the music world appreciate Paolo Pegoraro's ability of communication with the audience, his brilliant technique, but above all, his highly refined artistic sensibility. In an interview for one of the most important guitar magazines, David Russell praised him as one of the finest young artists of our time. Recently, the Italian magazine "GuitArt" elected him "Best Italian Guitarist of the Year".
He began his musical studies at a very early age, quickly demonstrating a distinct talent. His family provided an environment rich in musical stimuli: his father played the violin, his grandfather was a luthier, his uncle a guitarist.
The headstone of his professional education was laid at Maestro Tommaso de Nardis' class at the "Benedetto Marcello" Conservatory of Venice, where he graduated with the first class honours degree. He consecutively attended master classes of highly recognized performers such as Manuel Barrueco and David Russell, as well as receiving the Merit Diploma at the Chigiana Academy of Siena in Maestro Oscar Ghiglia's Class.
Between 1986 and 1993 he received First Prizes in a numerous national and international contests, among those the competitions in Rome, Viareggio, Stresa, Sanremo, Bari, Paris and Taranto.
He is regularly invited as soloist to the most important international festivals in all Europe, U.S.A., South America, Africa and Asia (e.g. New York, Nürtingen, Mexico City, Wirral, Morelia, Rome, Milan, Siracuse). He has performed in important theatres and halls as the "Teatro La Fenice"/Venice, "Sala delle Colonne"/Kyev, "Carlos Chavez"/Mexico City, "Carl Orff"/München, "Museo Chopin"/Varsavia. He is frequently invited as a juror in guitar competitions in Italy and abroad (e.g. "Pittaluga" of Alessandria, "Arcas" of Almeri, ecc.).
As a passionate teacher Paolo Pegoraro works at the prestigious Guitar Academy "Francisco Tárrega" in Pordenone. Together with his colleague Stefano Viola he is in charge of the guitar class, that has already spawned numerous winners of national and international competitions.
He has published an own transcriptions series and, together with Stefano Viola, has revised two collections of studies by Sor and Giuliani (Sinfonica Musical Editions/Carish distribution).
He recorded three CD's (Real Sound Label/Udine), all of them highly recommended by critics around the world. His CD "Solo" has been regarded as "the guitarist revelation of the year" by the German magazine "Gitarre & Laute".
He is currently artistic director of the "Friuli Venezia Giulia International Guitar Festival" in Pordenone.
