Tania Chagnot

Tania Chagnot began her musical studies with the guitar at the age of 8 years old with Maurice Rosset at the École Nationale de Musique de Fresnes. Two years later she complete her formation by studying the viola and the flute. At the age of sixteen she decides to devote herself entirely to the guitar. In the same year she already plays her first concerto for guitar and orchestra conducted by Jean Jacques Werner. She finishes her studies with the award of a Gold medal, Prix d'Excellence.

In 1980 Tania Chagnot meets the master Alberto Ponce and follow his teaching at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. She obtains the prestigious Diplome Superieur de Concertiste, with the unanimous congratulations of the jury in 1984.

Entering international competitions gave a new dimension to her young career, obtaining six prices for six participations.

1st Prize of the International Guitar Competition of Carpentras in 1981.
1st Prize of the International Guitar Competition of Sassari in 1982.
1st Prize of the International Guitar Competition of Rome in 1983.
2nd Prize of the International Guitar Competition of Toronto in 1984
2nd Prize of the International Guitar Competition of Benicassim in 1984.

It was in 1985 that her qualities as interpreter were confirmed, wining the prestigious International Guitar Competition of Paris Radio- France.

Besides the concerts in France she has given recitals in the UNITED-STATES, JAPAN, CANADA, CUBA, VENEZUELA, ITALY, and in BELGIUM, SPAIN, PORTUGAL, SWEDEN, SWITZERLAND, GERMANY, FINLAND, JORDANIA.
Tania gives a lot of time to teaching, considering it as an enrichment and absolutely complementary to musical career. She has obtained the highest teaching diplomas such as the Diplome d'état and the Certificat d'Aptitude, and teaches at the École Nationale de Musique de l'Hay-les-Roses. Her pupils often come from Japan, U.S.A., Switzerland as well as from all over France. She often gives master-class and summer lessons.

She will to show the qualities and richness of the guitar, and wishes to arise new creations for her instrument. This has been the case with Williams Montesinos, who has dedicated to Tania his work "Y la memoria tenia seis cuerdas", that she created in November 1999. More recently and from the same composer she had the pleasure with Catherine Brisset to create a very interesting work for cristal Bachet and guitar.

If Tania is a fervent perfomer of contemporary music, such as Ohana, Ibarrondo, Lejet,…, her artistic sensibility takes her to play a very wide repertoire going from very early music through epochs and styles. This is shown by her different recordings: "La Guitaromanie" (Opera Tres), "Oceanonox" (Damaris Records), "Los Cuatro Elementos" (Opera Tres), "Eric Penicaud" (PEN), Jean-Jacques Werner-5 Cantates (REM), Jean-Jacques Werner-Musique de Chambre (Marcal Classics), "La Guitare au XXème Siècle" (Altaïs).

To promote the guitar, Tania Chagnot creates the Association "Vous avez dit Guitare?" to organise the International Guitar Festival of Paris, which take place every year since 2003.
